S. Mares

Francisco Javier Sebastiá Mares was born on April 6, 1934 in Burjassot (Valencia). He carries out his main training studies at the San Carlos Superior School of Fine Arts in Valencia. In 1962, he went to Paris and stayed until 1965, coming into contact with the artistic avant-gardes of that moment. His work is transformed and induces the painter to a continuous evolution characterized by comings and goings that go from a figurative painting to an abstract painting of a symbolic nature, which he develops throughout his artistic career in different periods. As a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia, he became seriously ill and died on March 12, 1993.

The work of Sebastia Mares stands out mainly for a search for an encounter with his own personal and artistic discourse, which we can distinguish in the following periods:

Formation (1950-60), study period at the San Carlos Superior School of Fine Arts. Development (1960-68) goes to Paris and investigates abstraction and expressionism. He is awarded various prizes and holds various exhibitions. Madures (1968-79), develops an interesting artistic work from his stay at the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid, configuring a painting based on a particular deformation of reality, which due to its formal aspect translates into abstraction, being discovered by the first time a mystical message that the artist will expand in later stages.

Fluctuation (1979-82), the author embarks on different formal studies that approach Cubism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Futurism and Op-art, as well as an analysis of color and form that reflects a period mainly of investigation. Symbolism (1982-1990), a stage considered to have the greatest creative contribution, characterized by a geometric and symbolic abstraction due to the elements it introduces, bringing together the most important formal aspects investigated.
